LC-MS/MS system for organometallic compounds

At present I am working in a reserach lab wherein we are sysnthesizing organometallic compounds ( mainly with transition metals ).

We want to use ESI based LC-MS/MS system to do quantitation analysis
of our compounds.

Can we use LC-MS/MS system for our application?.

Can any body explain me in detail.

It will depend on the stability of your organometallics.
If they are labile you may need cold-ESI see link:

I've had some that have worked beautifully, and others that have been disastrous, so all I'd suggest, is try before you buy an instrument!

To be fair, I've only tried qualititative work with them; as you know, ESI is not an especially quantitative method without good standards.

If you're lucky, depending on transition metal, you can get some beautiful isotope peaks, and if you want to establish how many metal atoms are present, it can be a good technique.

As bhuvfe said, temperature matters. I've used an elderly Thermo ion-trap system where the default capillary temperature is 350 degrees, but for some organometallics, it's been necessary to reduce this as far as 200 degrees. Probably many others wouldn't even survive this.

Do you have an ICP-MS? It is very easy to couple LC to an ICP-MS for quantitative analysis of your organometallic compounds.
