I'm looking to buy a used Waters Dimension GC, put I have no experience with them. I have found no information on this GC and the seller's info is very limited. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

JM

I'd advise not buying an instrument that you have no experience with - go for one that you know how to use.

Thanks for the input, but I disagree. New instrument costs are excessive, and used instruments (even if you have no history with them) can function quite well with a few tips from colleagues. This could be a forum by itself, but I'd prefer this post be kept on topic.

I am looking for informationfrom someone who has used it in the past and can comment on its performance / reliability / maintenance requirements, etc.

Thanks again,

JM

Must be quite old, I wasn't aware that Waters were in the GC market anymore. and when I enquired about GCs to hook up with their Empower 2 software I was directed to either Agilent or Varian.

IMO if you can pick up a used Agilent it would be better.

Also, can you even get service support for it? Waters chromatography catalog doesn't cover any GC (apart from some packing materials). Do they still make spares?
Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

Support is a game-changer. Thanks for the tip.

Waters was in the GC market for about 2 years, sometime in the mid to late 1980s. I didn't think that any of these were still operational.

As above a short lived product that will not be supported. Avoid at all costs. Buying second hand makes sense on a limited budget, you can buy from specialists who can supply , install and support like us in the UK or go to labx.com etc.
