My boss is being offered a fully refurbished (by Waters) and warrantied Acquity system (binary solvent manager, temp-controlled autosampler, TUV detector, TUV flowcell) for a little less than $50K. Does that sound reasonable?

If it was refurbed by Waters I would assume that it was a demo unit which explains a lower than new price. These are normally very well cared for and should be "as good as new". Are they offering a warranty comparable to a new instrument plan? I would ask.

Yes, it was a demo unit so it's never been out of Waters' hands. The warranty is 1 year (same as new).
