I apologise to the thread author for interjecting without moving the intended topic of discussion along, but I have two questions. They are essentially raised by a non-answer and propagated by concern for the evolution of the forum. This should probably go in 'Around the Water Cooler' but I fear it will be overlooked in the quieter area of the board.
To chromatographer1:
Now that you are a consultant, I am curious to know whether your history of sharing much knowledge and solving or helping to solve myriad of application problems on the chromforum will be or has been ceased in favour of private off-line discussion?
To admin:
Not having noticed any official word on this subject, is it appropriate for me to ask for clarification on the board operator's view on invitations from consultants or industry/manufacturer reps to Joe user to "call or email me at the office"?
In my view this contravenes the fundamental philosophy of a message board; to share knowledge. That is, to discuss the subjects openly such that any member or viewer (present or future) can benefit*. In essence this is a universal precursor to all forum usage; if you haven't got anything useful to add, don't click submit. If you don't want to discuss openly, don't post.
The solicitation of off-line discussion with a consultant would only raise one question with me. How much are they going to charge? Is the board now a place to post your business card? At least the column suppliers are willing to post examples and discuss a bit of theory to stir the enquiring reader's mind.
On a free-to-use board with freely flowing information, the word consultant is actually quite depressing to read.
*If not, we might aswell remove the Search function.
