I use to analyze petroleum hydrocarbons from environmental samples ranging from C5 to C40. Volatile fraction by purge and trap and semivolatiles by solvent extraction.
So, my lab manager had a requirement:
A method suitable for extracting C40 through C100 from environmental samples( soils and water), I´ve read some catalogues and the Web, and I´ve only found ASTM D3235 "Solvent extractables in petroleum waxes" but I dont know if it´s suitable for environmental samples.
Furthermore, I guess dichloromethane isn´t suitable for extracting heavy hydrocarbons.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
