another chemstation question - pump stop time

Does the pump stop time over-rule a programmed sequence?

I had a sequence running, and came to find everything stopped, pump off, lamps off, etc right in the middle of the sequence.

(1) You had a fault in a module, such as a leak, which shut it down. Are there red lights on, at any of the modules? If it's a 1050 system, you can press buttons on the front to trace why it stopped, or you can open the Chemstation logbooks, under View. A fault in any module will stop the pumping.

(2) You have (knowingly or not) programmed the system to shut down when the solvent levels in the reservoirs get low, check that as well.

There are potentially lots of reasons - I've managed to encounter a lot. You need to review the logfile to find the cause, but if it's a one-time event, I'd look first at the compuer and autosampler.

Possible causes - depending on the model and software version. If you had date/time stop programmed on one module, the vial didn't pick up, or wasn't there, the controlling computer had incompatible software ( such as an autoupdate ), or got tied in a loop and didn't respond in time, so the sequence shut down after waiting for a while. A 1050 system can have low air pressure, so valves don't actuate... etc etc

Turn off all modules, turn off computer. Turn on modules, turn on computer, load Chemstation, try again with pumpall off.

If you have LAN connections, and use BootP service to give addresses to the modules, make SURE you turn on the computer first, let it finish booting, THEN turn on the modules.
