Hello,

I have three questions about changing diffusion pump fan.

1) I got an error message "diffusion pump too hot" and the heater was shut down. what are the chances that I can just change the fan w/o having to clean the source? How can you tell that oil didn't get into the system?
2) do I need to vent the machine to change the fan?
3) can I leave all connections and do it from the back w/ out removing the 5972 from the GC?

thanks in advance.
Hello,

I have three questions about changing diffusion pump fan. I'VE DONE THIS ON A 5972, A FEW YEARS AGO

1) I got an error message "diffusion pump too hot" and the heater was shut down. what are the chances that I can just change the fan w/o having to clean the source? MOST LIKELY. How can you tell that oil didn't get into the system? MOST LIKELY DIDN'T
2) do I need to vent the machine to change the fan? I DON'T REMEMBER
3) can I leave all connections and do it from the back w/ out removing the 5972 from the GC? YES

thanks in advance.

What I really remember: Instead of buying a new fan assembly from Agilent (which was somewhat costly, but still way cheaper than having a service call) - and I already had a same-size fan motor here - I removed the old defective fan and riveted in the new fan into the housing.mount, works great still. When you get it apart you'll see what I mean.
I'll see if I can save some $ and install a similar fan.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

Cheers.
