We have some media bottles for HPLC/SFC - the Corning kind of 1 L (standard https://fscimage.fishersci.com/images/C1727-01~wn.jpg).

What I can't seem to find are threaded caps with a 1/8-inch hole to allow 1/8-inch tubing to go in... The only place I found them were Upchurch Scientific and they were quite pricey!

Also looking for caps (with a 1/8-inch hole) but that fit on the standard 4-L solvent bottles (like http://www.bmedina.com.mx/catalog/image ... NISOLV.JPG)

Can anyone suggest a source for these type of caps (might be referred to as GL-45 and GL-38)...? It would be greatly appreciated!

We buy the one without holes (very cheap) and drill a 1/8 inch hole in them (takes about 2 second each).

Alltech has an array of media bottle caps with 1/2/3/4 holes. Shimadzu must also have some, as they provide them for their newest HPLCs.

If you are using solvents, then PBT bottle tops, with or without the ETFE pouring ring, that are also available from Schott Duran are OK. You can purchase replecement PTFE inner seals It's very easy to drill 1/8" holes through them. Check out the Schott Duran catalogue.

The normal PP bottle tops and pouring rings from Schott Duran will swell with solvents.

Unless you're using them to feed ACN/TFA to an Acquity system - Pyrex is less likely to add anything unwanted to the mix.

The resin used in most GL-20 thread caps is quite soft. I've been known to use the leather punch in my Swiss Army knife to drill a 1/8" hole in one in <30sec.

As far as I'm aware, the Schott Duran borosilicate glass bottles used for mobile phases are similar to Pyrex, but I'd be very interested in any information if they aren't.

The PBT tops with PTFE inner seals are more expensive than the normal PP tops, but are still easy to drill 1/8" holes, and a cork borer ( if still used ) or a gasket punch, will put clean holes through the silicone/PTFE inner seal that also seal well against the tubing.

However, I should note that Schott Duran now make a new top for laboratory bottles that is even more chemically resistant than the PBT system, called the " Premium " screw cap. It is made from TPCh260, with the inner silicone seal having PTFE on both faces. I have no experience with it, but it's now probably the best choise for HPLC bottles.

The Pyrex media bottles are actually made in Germany. And my guess would be that they are manufactured by Schott.

Duran glass is a borosilicate glass with high chemical resistance and very similar (identical?) to Pyrex glass.
