back when Ezchrom elite software was not in the hand of Agilent,
they created Open lab in order to be a middle section piece of software between that would be capable of taking the information from ezchrom elite to the former cyber lab (ECM). that would permit the transfer of the file based informaton in ezcrhomn to the data based ECM. it was supposed to be able to speak with millenium and chemstation as well as other type of instruments in the lab like Ph instruments and so on.
in the end Agilent made open lab and ECM one product with the emphasis on openlab. i do not no why.
ECM means entreprise content manager, you can find far better products on the market that will give a better solution for your enterprise, also if it is a solution for the lab then go for a good LIMS.
we tried it and saw that it was not very flexible.
in order to be 21 CFR part 11 compliant they simply added a layer of audit-trail to word and Excel. it did not solve our issues with the security involved in using those software for our lab needs for document creation like electronic noteboks for example. user could still find ways to make changes and there is a constant need to check if changes were made instead of providing for a user management like should be the correct solution
also we would have found ourselves using Ezcrhom or chemstation as the main CDS for our instruments and we did not want that at all.
chemstation is still not GLP or 21 CFR part 11 compliant and a primitive piece of CDS
Ezchrom is far less capable as a CDS then other solutions in the market.
