Dear Friends,

Our lab is acquiring an LC/MS system. We would like to hear your coments about the following equipments

LCMS Shimadzu 2010EV single quadrupole v/s Waters 3100 Mass Detector

We have experience using the waters instrument, but not with Shimadzu.
if is there anybody who had worked with the Shimadzu LCMS-2010 we would like to know if you had problems with the scan rate and how much difficult are the maintenance procedure?

sorry for my english and thaks a lot.

I have only used the LC part of the LC2010 system (not the MS part). I can tell you that the LC part is very reliable and well suited for normal LC/MS work. Shimadzu has excellent (and free) tech support. We have found their instruments highly reliable.

What is your application? Any particular reason to choose a single quad over triple quad or ion trap?

sassman

thanks for your reply

we want to buy the a simple quadrupole because we already have an triple quadrupole from Waters and is full of samples, we want to inject in the simple quadrupole for screening and then inject only the positive samples in the LC MS MS to confirm.

we again appreciate your reply

We have been using the 2010 LCMS for more than 2 years. It works ok, nothing fancy. Maintenance can be done by an experienced user and is probably not more complicated than on other instruments.

We had some problems with the capillaries in the ESI and APCI-interfaces (were blocked often at times). They are easy to change but expensive.

What I like about the system is the software. It is quite intuitive and I rarely needed to consult the manual (in contrast to e.g. Chemstation).
I do not know the Waters system, so I can not compare the two.

If you already have a Waters MSMS, it might be easier for you to get another waters, so you do not have to mess with two different softwares.

HTH,

Hartmut
