ECD trouble

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Dear members,
As it was mentioned previously about many GC ECD sensitivity problems, we have such a case that whatever we do about to figure out the problem, we have nothing as a result. we still have high background signal and can't see any other signal. After conditioning the dedector or leak test by DCM gave us no positive info. We also changed Makeup gas (N2) with a new one and problem still exists. When we just uninstal the column, we have still the same noise. (Also we changed the flow of N2 up and down to see any changes in dedector response). Dedector seems not to response any command (for noise level change) but responses are still normal when on/off or temp control cases.
can it be possible to check cell contamination by any other means? i.e. voltage or else?
any idea will be appreciated

IS this an Agilent µECD ?

Dear members
the problem has just identified. That's just a wire (signal transfer line) connection error in dedector (it seems burned at the point of connction) that' why dedector can not response any signal changes but it still generates high bck signal. We will have a new one today and send the damaged one to company.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Do you have a cause for the burning of the wire?

There was nothing as far as we know to cause this kind of error. Temperature has not been over 350 C. Service report may let us know to reason, I hope.
