Online GCs usually have specialist inlet plumbing that does not necessarily conform to the usual split-splitless inlet of a bench GC. You need to refer to the operating instructions for the specific instrument that you are working with.

praveenpaliwal,

If your column flow is 0.5 mL/min, your are also sending 50 mL/min out the split vent and only loading 1/100th of the sample injected on column. If your column flow is 2 mL/min you are sending 200 mL/min out the split vent and only loading 1/100th of the sample on the column. In the first case you might be supplying a total flow to the injector of, perhaps, 55 mL/min: 0.5 for column, 50 for the split and 4.5 for the septum purge. Rarely works this cleanly but you get the idea.

Best regards.
