Unfamiliar with ELSD

Hi, everyone!
I'm trying to assay oleic acid and monoolein in a farmaceutical product using RP chromatography with ELS detection. I'm not very familiar with this detector and when I found out that the precision was poor I supposed it could be due to detector fluctuations. I added palmitic acid (eluting between the analytes of interest) but its area remains constant while the others vary some between injections.
I would very much like some suggestions of how to increase the precision and what to think of when doing method development on an ELSD.

Thanks

Check your ELSD temperature. These carboxylic acids can parially evaporate in ELSD thus reducing amount of acid you see. Try to drop temperature to 35*C in ELSD.
We had this problem when we developed a method for C12, C14 and C16 carboxylic acids.

regards,

Vlad
