Dear all:
We were asked to create a method to test for a polymer called Poly(hexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride) (PHMB). It is not listed in any official monograph.

Did anyone perform assay of it using LC? Could you help to show us in the right direction? We are short on time. Thank you.

Alfred.

Isn't that active used to treat acanthamoeba of the cornea (eyedrops)?

Dear:

The formulation is for the Eyes.
PHMB is the component that can kill bacteria and fungus. So far as I know PHMB is used in some water-treating chemicals for pools, and I could not find a supplier for the pure material.

Alfred

Leiter's Pharmacy in San Jose custom makes prescription pharmaceutical eye drops with PHMB, maybe contact them.
