Hello everybody,

I'm working on HILIC lately and I was wondering whether anybody has any book or article suggestion in order to better understand the theoritical chromatographic mechanism.

Apart from that, I was trying to apply a direct organic solvent injection an a silica column. The mobile phase is ACN/water/TFA 93/7/0.025 and flow rate about 500uL/min. Ten uL of organic solvent (MTBE) after liquid liquid extraction were directly injected. Peak tailing has appeared after about 20 injections that got worse by the time. I was wondering whether the organic solvent damages so much the silica column or not.

I would highly appreciate any help.

The basic mechanism is described in my book on HPLC columns on page 217. There were recently 2 articles in J. Chrom. that discussed mechanisms. One by Olson, in J. Chrom. A 918 (2001), 113 and the other by Guo in J. Chrom. A 1074 (2006), 71.

For an introduction to HILIC I would recommend the booklet “A Practical Guide to HILICâ€
