Hello!
I need to clean my quadrupole assembly on my agilent 5973.
Do you have a procedure to clean it?
I know that i can't use ultrasonic bath
Thank you!

Hi Rick,

Do you mean that you want to clean your ion source assembly? If so, then you can incorporate an ultrasonic cleaning stage on the metal parts but not on the insulators, source heater assembly or filaments. The procedure is in the manual and can be followed quite easily. You should also have the cleaning accessories kit that came with the MS.

Regards,

Ralph

Just remember that Agilent no longer recommends a drying oven bake out step at the end of the cleaning procedure. They say you should let it air dry at room temp, not that I've noticed any real difference either way.

Rick,

The Agilent's engineer told me that MSD needs to be autotuned when it's in trouble. The ion source may become dirtier everytime when autotune is executed. However, there is no fixed frequency as suggested by him. I recommend tuning the MSD every month to track the change of MSD performance.
