:?: Are there any visible lamps in waters dual wavelength UV detector/PDA? How to use them at visible wavelength range, such as 525nm?

Thanks.

Hi CQ_32,

Yes, there are!
How to use them? You just enter the desired wavelength (525 nm) in the Instrument Method and this should do the trick. Remember though to save the changes

The problem is that there is no tungsten lamp installed in Waters UV detectors, such as 996 PDA and Dural Wavelength. A filter has to be used. Has anyone have this experience?

Those detectors use a duterium lamp which produces wavelengths well into the visible range (700 or 800 nm I think).

As AA mentioned there are deuterium lamps in those detectors and their wavelength range is from 190 to 700 nm. No filters needed. The grating will adjust the wavelength for you

Thank you for the information.
However, I did see the message " filter needs to be installed" for the wavelength I chose 525 nm for dual wavelength detector. Also there is a place inside the detector for filter.
For PDA 996, I didn't see such things. So I assume it is OK.

Hi CQ_32

I’ve just tried to enter 525 nm in Waters 2487 UV/VIS detector method and I didn’t get any massages. So it works fine for me. I use Waters Millennium software. If you use another vendor’s software, it just might be a “bugâ€
