Taurine Quantitation via HPLC

We have been trying to measure Taurine in beverages following this method:

Unfortunately our results have been less than adequate. No peaks on some attempts, no variation in area between standard levels on other attempts. We are using a fairly old 1100 model DAD (G1315B) but there does not appear to be any issues with the detector itself when other analysis are performed. I have been told that it is possible that this detector is not suitable for this application due to lack of sensitivity however I am dubious of that reason. I suspect the breakdown in our efforts is related to our use of the DNFB reagent however no indication of special handling of this material was noted.

Has anyone ever worked with this reagent in an HPLC application and if so were any special considerations necessary for the handling of this material in terms of storage etc. that would marginalize its efficacy over short periods of time?
Hi there,
I am not familiar with this reagent and procedure but wondered whether the J. Chem. Ed. journal article referenced in the paper you used may help. Often J. Chem. Ed. papers have supplementary materials which may provide an answer to your questions including how to handle the reagents etc.

Thank you for taking a look. I did look into that authors work and found a supplement to his paper that utilizes a gradient rather than an isocratic flow and maybe that will help. No indication that DFNB has stability issues in general or in this case so I am starting to think that was not the problem.
