Hey, I'm having a really hard time determining what system to use in order to detect cetrimide (alkyltrimethylammoniumbromide). Can anyone please help me? So far I've tried mixtures of methanol, acetonitrile and toluenesulphonic, but I can't seem to find it. Please Help me, thank you very much.

Your problem is in detection technique (I am assuming that you are doing HPLC). Your compound is not UV active. You need ELSD or LC/MS detector to monitor cetrimide. You can also use indirect detection.
Any reverse column will retain cetrimide. You can use ACN-water-TFA or ACN-water-ammonium formate for ELSD/LC-MS. 50-70% ACN should give you elution

imonic,

A good column to use for analytes of this sort is the Acclaim Surfactant column from Dionex. If you follow this link you'll find a description as well as a data sheet on the column which includes example chromatograms at least one of which includes your analyte of interest: http://www1.dionex.com/en-us/columns_ac ... 25924.html
