Agilent Cerity - issue with sequences aborting

If anyone has Agilent Cerity in full client-server mode, I'd be grateful if you could tell me what you are using for the following in your infrastructure. We have been experiencing intermittent issues with sequence aborting and both ourselves and Agilent are having trouble pinpointing the route cause. We believe it lies between the instruments and acquisition controllers, hence information gratefully received on:

PC/Servers being used for Acquisition Controllers. If servers, do you have single or teamed network cards?

Operating system on Acquisition Controllers. Was this installed from MS CDs or using a company specific installation.

Speed and duplex of network cards on Acquisition Controllers, switches and HPLCs.

Network switch make/model and firmware (if known). Number of hops between instruments and Acquisition Controllers.

Thanks in advance.

Hy Tim,

I do hope that you are aware of the fact that Agilent has bought SSI in order to ship the EZChrom software instead of Cerity.

You are to date the only person that i know of who's organisation decided to use Cerity.
I say this so that you will take into consideration the long term effects of Agilent's decision.
you should make sure (and by writting in my opinion) that you will receive ample support for years to come for your cerity system and will be able to move to a replacement platform afterwards. If your system is new then you should reconsider moving now to EZChrom, or to another CDS.

Hope you do solve your problem.

Hi,

This is the first I heard of it and we have close contact with Agilent senior management on the subject. Could I ask where you got your information, or is this just a rumour you have heard?

The reason I am aware of for Agilent buying SSI was to get CyberLab, which they rebranded Cerity ECM, as a direct competitor to Waters having NuGenesis. The fact Agilent rebranded it Cerity ECM would seem to indicate what you say is incorrect.

Tim,

SSI's ECM was used by agilent as Cerity ECM something like a year before SSI was bought by Agilent.
In recent years most big companies to my knowledge installed EZChrom, Chromeleon, Millenium/Empower (not by order of importance) in order to have a C/S installation.
Agilent has been lagging behind hard on the matter with Cerity. By buying SSI, Agilent has gained a worldwide and very broad base of user.
Kind of like Merck germany did by buying out Calbiochem, novagen and turned the into Merck-Bioscience.

truthfully it really does not matter if i am wrong on the matter, just make sure that if it is the other way around that you have support for years to come. it would be very sad if Agilent comes to you in a 3-4 years and tells you to switch to EZChrom because support of Cerity has been totally discontinued, after you invested so much in it. even with them taking most of the bill you would have to teach all your staff an entire new CDS all over again, never an easy task.
