Calculating backflash

If I have sample that's diluted 1:1 with acetonitrile and my sample is mostly water based I obviously have to take both components into account when calculating potential back flash.

Sorry new to the topic so the question/solution is probably simple for you guys!

Are you trying to estimate the vapour volume from a sample injection, so that you can select the correct inlet liner ? Just calculate for 1/2 ul of acetonitrile and 1/2 ul of water and add them. The GC manufacturers have tools for this on their websites. It is, at best, an inexact science.

Plus you will be limited as to the volume you can inject as well as lowering your injection temp. When I had to inject water into an Agilent 6890 using a liner ( internal volume 900ul)
I could only inject 0.5 ul and the injector was just above 100C.
