Headspace instead of Automated Liquid sampler

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hello

I have a situation with a GC with split/splitless injector, FID detector and a Headspace sampler. We want to analyze the formulated pesticides from a Pesticide Factory for QC, normally this is done with an automated liquid sampler but I don't have one. Can we use a Headspace for this analysis, so that we can automate the analysis? The headspace is a Dani HSS 86.50 Plus.

Thank you for your answer.

Life is a game, and in a game you can win or loose, but it is still a game.
Depending on the pesticide it may be possible, but it will be very difficult, and I doubt that it would get past any regulators, who like to see results from established methods. I know that manual injections are a generation out of date, but in this case they might be the best option.

Hello

I think it'd be very difficult (or even impossible) to optimize headspace method for pesticides (a lot of them are not volatile enough, and there are to many "active sites" in flow path) and manual injection could be a solution however for normal method (RSD checking, calibration, recalibration) there will be a lot of injections so it will be tricky to apply manual injection and validate method.
Buying new or "second hand" autosampler is worth to consider.

Short answer is it probably will not work, at the very least it will complicate your analysis greatly and you will spend more money on labor trying to make it work and banging your head on the bench than it would cost to just purchase an ALS. If it is an Agilent instrument there are a lot of old 7673's that one of the refurbishing companies could sell you that are pretty cheap. If you are only doing a few samples at a time you could save money and just buy the tower and not the tray.
