Dear All,

I need some help to diagnosing a problem that I am having.

We've recently (about 4-5 months ago) had a Varian 240-MS installed to our GC system and for the first few month it worked very well. We then noticed that ion source was not reaching the required temperature of 220C, but remaining at 90C. The engineer said it is most probable the external ion source heater which is not working and need replacing. We did replace the heater and for the first 1-2 days with the new part the temperature did reach the set 220C. However after a few day we noticed again that the temperature was remaining at 90C.

At this point I am doubting whether this is an issue of a broken ion source heater and was wondering if anybody have had a similar problem and if they found what was the cause.

Any suggestion is appreciated

Regards

Nathalie
Hi Nathalie,

I have also been experiencing this problem today. I have an Agilent 5973 MS. I can't get my source heater or quad heater to work. I checked the heater fuses and they are fine. Did you find a solution to your issue?

Thanks,
Erika
