Column different solvent compatability

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

We have a few methods in our lab that uses different diluents for standards and samples. Some use acetonitrile while others use dimethylacetamide.

We segregate our columns based on what diluent (acetonitrile used only on acetonitrile method). Does it really matter using the same column with different solvents. Column is a db5 by the way.
Sometimes you can get a solvent effect at the head of the column. Sample/solvent vaporizes and then condenses at the head of the column. If the stationary phase and the solvent are not compatible, you can get smearing of your solvent and analytes (tailing of the peaks). To me, that's the only concern. The 5-phase is rugged. The 2 solvents you mention should be fine for that phase. I presume you're running a temperature program in your oven. Make sure you go hot enough to get all of the solvent out before the next injection.
Bake out between different methods. Got ya thanks
