dear all,

currently i have some plastic samples need to detect MTBE in ppm level,
i m thinking to use headspace and lowox column. anyone has experience on the method setup? how u prepare the standard? what is the temperature programming? thanks
To get an accurate measurement of the MtBE content you must dissolve the plastic in a suitable solvent, toluene for polyethylene for example.

Headspace onto a medium polarity or very polar column will probably give you adequate resolution of the MtBE.

The shape and mass of your plastic samples will affect the amount of MtBE you measure.

I think you need to consider if you just need an approximate answer or if you want an accurate measurement.

Some research will have to be done if you do not have a reference to research already done for the plastic you desire to test.

Good luck.
