Dear all,

Hi. I'm new bird in GC. I would like to know is there any method for detecting antioxidant (TBHQ/ BHA) using my Agilent 6890?

I would like to know the following:-
a) how to prepare the sample.
b) what is the GC conditioning method

Really need your helps, thanks in advance.

Since substances such of these are not always stable, we dissolve in DMF and make trimethylsilyl derivatives, then assay by capillary GC on a nonpolar column. Most common antioxidants can be resolves readily. There is a paper in 1982, maybe updated by now, from "Quantitative Determination of BHT in Soap Products by Capillary Gas Chromatography" in the Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society which has proved helpful to us.
