Hi everybody,

does anybody know if it is possible to form groups in the chemstation software?
I have to investigate flame retardants (PBDE) and want to quantitate each group (mono-BDE - deca-BDE) seperately by summing up all the corresponding group peaks.

I only know that it works in the chromeleon software and I'm pretty unfamiliar with chemstation.

Thanks.
Yes, GC and LC Chemstation has a grouping function, don't know about the modern GCMS software. I use grouping about 5% of the time. It's not easy for me to explain, but let's say that your group is 70% A and 30% B. The standard is injected. Both would get assigned Group 1 (get the Group column there using Edit Options under Calibration), then you enter in the weight of the group and the software divides it up automatically. Use the Agilent Help, or call them at 800-227-9770 and they should be able to help you over the phone.

Anyway, I then sum up the individual percents to get the total "Group" percent.
Thank you for your answer. My workmate said it wouldn't be possible at chemstation, so that's some good news for me. I will try that.
Is there a way to organize the group by retention time? I use Groups for PCB Aroclors and I would like them to be displayed by their retention time but I have not been able to figure out how to do so.
CPG,

Does the grouping require that you assign a peak name to each component? What I would like to do is integrate a slew of peaks, then group everything between say 2 and 3 minutes as one "component". I am currently using area sum but the integration with area sum has issues that grouping peaks does not.

Does that make sense?

Best regards,

AICMM
