Hi
I have been playing around with this for a while with no luck so any pointers for thing sto try would be appreciated!

I have an HP1050 system (pump, a/s and VWD) and am trying to get the VWD to talk to Chromeleon via the GPIB.

I have installed an NI GPIB card (I also have an HP 82350A available if needed) and this seems to install OK (no errors in the hardware list. The NI Max software shows the card. This is where things get slightly strange. If you then search on that card for instruments, it finds a list of what appear to be about 30 instruments even though only the VWD is connected. The address for each is something like GPIB0::17::xx where xx is 1-30. The GPIB0 is right for the card and the 17 is the default address for the VWD. Not sure why it seems to come up with what appear to be a long list of instruments.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan
Dear friend
as far I know, Agilent instruments wont work with NI cards.
try to setup hp82341 card( ISA) and I think it will work.
Hi

I have been playing around a bit with this and still no luck. I have now installed an HP 82350 card. Configured as a hp 82341 (as recommended). The IOconfig software sees the board and allows me to configure it.

I then manually add in each of the instrument units with the correct GPIB address. When I start Chemstation (Vn. A10.6) it doesnt recognise the pump autosampler and detector.

Any pointers for things to try?

Thanks

Jonathan
Hi,

I configured a 1050 during summer with Chemstation 10.02 and XP. I did the configuration of the 1050 through the instrument setup programme of Chemstation. You have to set the bus of the HP-IB card to 30 but as I understood you wont see the modules through the card software. I tried that but it did not work...so thats why I did it with the setup instrument configurator. I'll have to take a look in the instrument. It is a hybrid 1050/1100 (1050 pump and ALS, 1100 oven and VWD).

Cheers

I just checked.

On the desktop you should have a folder that is called Agilent ChemStations. You open that folder and click on the programme

Configuration editor > Configure > Modular LC System and then you add the modules with the GP IB adresses. I tried it also from the GPIB card software but did not work and it showen me only questionmarks.

My config is: 1050 Autosampler GPIB address 18
1050 Quat pump GPIB address 16
1100 System access GPIB address 24

the two 1100 modules (columns switch oven and VWD) are with a CAN cable connected (plug and play) and from the detector I go out with the GPIB cable to the computer.

It all works perfect!

Hope this helps.

Hi.
Thanks for the info. I have added in an instrument and then added in the individual units with unique GPIB addresses and chem station doesnt see them.

If I run IOconfig, if you set the board as per previous comments (bus address etc) but then if you get it to add automatically the units it comes up with an error (something like config32 software error. I am wodnerign if the IO libs are not installed correctly or are the wrong version.

Jonathan
Let me know your IOLIB version. maybe you're using wrong version.
Thanks. I will check tomorrow. Is the software from Keysight likely to resolve these problems or not?
Hi,

i think config32 does not have anything to do with the libraries...I found this on the internet.
Config32.exe Description :System Tray icon installed by the drivers for some Internet mice, notably Mitsumi. It enables the end-user to configure the buttons on the mouse as well as other aspects of the behaviour of the mouse.
I installed the Version 16.3.

If I remeber correctly I also had some trouble seeing the modules but I think it was a little bit tricky with the bus setting. I thought I set it at 30 but did not.

Cheers
Andreas
Hi

I checked software and we have:

Software: A.10.02
IOLibs L.02.01.00

When you go to IOconfig and set the board (hp82340 and bus address). If you then press VISA config and then auto add to see if it finds any devices, it comes up with an error (VISACF32) auto add error saying something like is you have installed IOlibs or changed SICL parameters, you need to reboot.

Any clues? I wonder if the IOlibs are wrong?

Thanks once again!
change your iolib

use M.01.01
then try to configure it correctly, and get connection.
write me if you need this version.
