Agilent 1100 DAD not sending UV data to MassLynx 4.0

I have an Agilent (Hewlett Packard) 1100 LC system with a DAD (diode array) and a Micromass Platform LC MS. The Agilent 1100 DAD is connected to the computer through an Agilent 82350 PCI GPIB interface card. The other parts of the Agilent LC are connected to each other through ethernet cables. The whole system works fine except for the UV signal that doesn't make it into the MassLynx most of the time. For a while resetting the communications and redoing the inlet configuration would bring back the signal, but now I can't get it back at all. The status light on the DAD indicates it is OK.

The only warning I see is in the Agilent Connection Expert where the DAD has the warning: "Some of the device information did not match the previous setting" and under details: "Warning: The IDN string""

Any help with my lost UV signal would be very much appreciated.
I had some trouble getting Agilent devices working with Masslynx. One of the problems was the version of Agilent connection expert. Try some older versions, they are available on the Agilent website.

Good Luck
Jörg
I uninstalled the Agilent IO Libraries Suite software and installed a slightly earlier version. Unfortunately this let to a loss of communication with the Agilent DAD which is plugged into the GPIB card. When I try to open the inlet file the message "Failed to open sicl communication session at address hpib7, 26. SICL Error:-No error." appears. If I re-install the first version I was using of Agilent IO Libraries Suite I still have the same problem ... there must be some configuration setting somewhere that I need to reset ...
Go to the Agilent Connection Expert program, properties of the GPIB interface. There you see the following values:
VISA interface ID (should be GBPIB0)
GPIB address (should be 21)
SICL interface ID (should be hpib7)
Logical unit (should be 7)

When you install the Agilent libraries fresh, it might be that the SICL interface ID is called gpib not hpib. Even though hpib is not listed in the dropdown menu, you can enter it manually. Then your connection to DAD should work (windows reboot might be required).

Hope that helps,
Jörg
OK, with the correct SICL interface ID it runs with most of the other versions of Agilent Connection Expert (except for the earliest 2 and the latest one) ... however the lost UV signal has still not come back ...

I'm thinking of re-installing MassLynx 4.0 now ... although I'm a bit afraid the configuration may involve some tricks beyond my knowledge base ...
I have some instructions that might help you reinstalling. If you intend to reinstall windows as well, be sure to use an english copy of windows (not any other language set to english user interface). It won't work otherwise. For further assistance, tell me your e-mail and I will send you the instructions.

Good luck
Jörg
I intend to use the "MassLynx Easy Restore V4.0" CD set that "Restores the Disk Drive to Original Waters Factory Configuration For the IBM ThinkCentre M50 Workstation" although my computer is a HP Compaq with windows XP Professional on it ... Hopefully it will do the job ...

Yes, please send the instructions you have to gmedprep@gmail.com
