Empower 3 - column tracking

Is it possible to include a prompt in methods whereby the User has to enter the ID number of the column for each run? We currently record column usage in a paper system, but it would seem more logical to do this electronically via Empower (assuming it can report data relating to each unique column ID number if requested to do so).

if it's a required custom field, they have to enter something before they run

Would it be relatively straightforward to set up a report whereby a USer could run the report to see when a specific column had been used, and the associated Sample Set?

It might be more of a view filter exercise... sorting and filtering the injections table (or sample set table) for certain columns.
