gold seal change? or column change? if i do not need vent the system for gold seal, do I need to cap the column by using septum seal?

For changing the gold seal, just cool oven to ambient and to the work, pulling that little air through the column won't damage it if you will let it flush for 10 minutes before heating the oven up again. Don't plug it with a septa, as it can suck fragments down into the column because of the vacuum.
If you are going to change the column you normally vent the MS since such a large air leak from the removed column can cause strain on the high vacuum system. I have before changed columns by venting cooling the source and shutting down the turbo pump but leaving the rough pump running and doing a quick one minute switching of columns, but it isn't easy and if you haven't done it before probably not the best idea to try.
