Headspace VFA

Hi,

Does anybody know a method for the headspace analysis of volatile fatty acids using hand injection. I am new to this field and need a basic method as a starter. Here in Lab we have a Focus GC and DSQ11 (MS). Hope to have some info from all soon.

Put the sample in a headspace vial, acidify to pH less than 2, seal. Equilibriate at 50 C or so with shaking. Warm a gas tight syringe to 50 C in a GC oven. Take a sample from the vial headspace with the warm syringe and inject. Use a polar column.

The details will depend on what you want to analyse - which you do not divulge.
