How long does it take for a new system to stabilize to its high vacuum at < 5x10-6 torr approx. initially? Can it be done overnight with a proper working foreline and turbo? Or can it take sometimes more than that?
Overnight is generally enough on newer mass spectrometer, sometimes even less.
I'd say 1-3 hours. That's all it takes our Thermo ion trap mass specs. Careful not to turn the electronics on to early that can cause arcing in the instrument. You should be able to monitor the internal pressure via an ion gauge.
