gas analysis by GC

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hi everyone

Can I analyze gas mixture by GC or GC-MS at concentration below 10 ppm?
GC-MS would be better or GC with TCD detector?
Any practical advice would be greatly appreciated.
Getting below 10ppm is possible but tricky with a TCD. As your senisitivity goes up so will your noise. Take a look at the link below for prep and analysis of methane, ethane, and ethylene.

What are your analytes?
If you are looking at detecting gas impurities below 10ppm you should be looking at Helium ionisation detectors rather than TCD
Gow-Mac, Valco, and AIC are companies to ask questions concerning your application.

All should be able to help you get into the ppb range if necessary.

best wishes,

TCD isn't sensitive enough for accurate 0-10ppm measurement. It is better to go with ionization detector like plasma emission detector from LDetek.

You can find a good solution at www.ldetek.com

They can offer complete micro GC solution using plasma emission detector for detecting 0-10ppm impurities. They can also offer a oem plasma detector to fit on a Lab GC.

Feel free to contact me at dgagne@ldetek.com and I can send you some more information and references.

Dany
