Waters 2487 - Maximum energy error

Peak not found - Reference energy maximum

Anybody know what this means?

This indicates a weak lamp or poor light transmittance through the optics. What the message means is that the detector can no longer increase the gain at the front end amplifier to bring the deuterium spectrum back up to an acceptable level.

So, bad lamp or some kind of issue elsewhere in the light path.
I did a few things here to no success.

I changed the lamp (warmed up for 60 mins)
Cleaned flow cell (rebuilt with Waters rebuild kit)

There is no cuvette in the detector.

I'm at a loss at this point. Any suggestions?

I know some of the older 996 PDAs had problems with the windows yellowing with age, not sure if the VWDs did as well. Speak to Waters about that.
Where can I buy the kit they use in CSI?
Also check for corrosion or hazing on the focusing mirrors.

Check lamp energy in the diagnostics. The reference energy is measured before the cell, the sample energy is measured after the cell. The reference energy of the new lamp appr. 100 if the optics is good. At first check the M1 mirorr and the optics window.
