Hello there,

we are trying to characterize micellization behaviour of one of the nonionic perfluorinated surfactant sold by sigma-aldrich. From what I have found it is obvious, that the structure of this compound is a bit "mysterius" (probably a mixture of these molecules with various chain lengths). Mass of this mixture is around 950. Becasue I am not that good at chromatography, I would like to ask. If i will find a common solvent (maybe THF) for this molecule, what chromatography could I use to separate those molecules (so that I will know more about the structure). MOlecular formula is like this: http://www.chemnet.com/cas/en/65545-80- ... ctant.html

Thank you very much.

Juraj
ZONYL FSN-100 is 1:1 in dioxane solvent

CAS Number 65545-80-4

Linear Formula (C2H4O)x(CF2)yC2H5FO

Solubility

• >2% in water, isopropyl and methyl alcohol, acetone, ethyl
acetate, toluene, THF, and methyl chloroform
• Insoluble in n-heptane

Poly(oxy-1,2-ethanediyl), alpha-hydro- omega -hydroxy-, ether with
alpha-fluoro- omega -(2-hydroxyethyl)poly(difluoromethylene)

Note that the material is 1:1 in dioxane.

best wishes,

Rod
Hello Rod,

thank you for your answer. Where did you find this information?

Juraj
google search gave me the Sigma Chemical web site reference.

Rod
Here they say its 100 % surfactant.

Juraj
It probably depends upon the source of your material.

I have no idea where you procured yours.
