CP-3800 shows no FID analog output

Dear all,

I have a somewhat strange problem with my CP-3800.

I upgraded with a FID and a FID PWA.
When I use the FID with the GC Workstation via network everything seems to be ok. There is a signal and the chromatogram looks as usual. So far, so good.

When I try to record the chromatogram via the analog output on J6 there seems to be no signal.
I tried all three Ports (with the corresponding pin outs) without success. The cable was working on a different GC without problems. The Datasystem and A/D converter are also working properly. Even the GC display shows a signal from the FID.

Is it possible that the analog port was an option? The mainboard is a very late revision (rev. 10) and the ROM is also one of the last.

I don`t think there was a problem with ESD damage, because I used ESD strips connected to a grounding.

When I had a look at the mainboard I saw a free place for an IC in the upper right corner of the board near the analog output J6. Maybe there is an “option” missing on my board.
The GC was used with a Saturn 2000 without detectors before.

Unfortunately using the Varian software is no option in this case.

Maybe someone has a hint for me.

Best regards

Stephan
Hello Stephan,

If I remember well, the CP3800 has not analog signal output. It was an option. So, does not matter it had MS or standard detector.
I think the best solution is to use the original Varian software. The Star WS has not any protection only a serial number.

Regards,
Laszlo
Dear Lazlo,

thank you very much for your answer.

Is the analog output realy an option?
I had another CP3800 where the analog output is functional. Unfortunately the GC is gone to another lab, so I have no chance to look at the mainboard if there is something more onto it.
BTW. The GC firmware of my actual GC is much more newer. Maybe I need an additional IC on the mainboard?

Unfortunately the Varian WS or MS WS is no option. Sure it will record FID data. I am doing so at the moment, but for special lab purposes I need the analog signal.

Any advice is greatly welcome.

Best regards

Stephan
