Any C-18 material for open column chromatography?

I want to know if there is any C18 material which can be used in open columns and at atmospheric pressure. Suggestions are much apreciated

1. My need is for Phytochemistry studies and not macromolecules purification
2. None of the sites you mentioned deal with Packing material for Open columns
3. I spent a lot of time in the net and couldnt find the material I need thats why decided to give a try with experts and their experience.
4. I am not looking for a packing material(Reverse phase) for HPLC.

Gbalaji87 i think you mean flash column chromatography with 'open column'. In that case you need larger particle size silica and you can find that modified silica with C18 on merck.
sorry I did not understand your needs. As just posted, Supelco et al have packings you need at the same sites I offered links to you.

I hope you find what you need, flash chromatography uses much larger particles, often irregular in shape.

No sir. I didnt mean Flash chromatography. I just wonder whether running C18 column would be as easy as like that of running a normal phase column at atmospheric pressure (and so is faster flow rate). We are not well equipped to run Flash Chromatography in our lab. I tried with some C18 material but it was awful slow and it is not possible to elute the compounds unless some pressure provided.

Gbalaji, for flash column chrom. you just need a glass column -a glass tube with a sinter (or even cotton may be enough) and a tap at the end-. For make separation at atmospheric pressure you need large particles of silica (modified or not). Neither classical c18 columns nor classical normal phase columns are suitable for atmospheric pressure because of low particle size (3-5-10 um) which is the fundemental of HPLC.
Maybe you may use SPE cartridges..
I remember we used at some point some C18 material (Zeoprep, 40-63 um) for large scale SPE. It should work as fine for open-column chromatography, although the phase is pretty expensive.

How long is your open column? And what ID? My recommendation is C18 modified silica with 30 to 60 µm particle size but irregular, not spherical, particles. You need to prepare a slurry before packing the column for better results than packing it with dry material. Lichroprep from Merck I would use, or any other irregulare particle size C18 material. Sir I hope single glass column with a sinter alone dont make a flash column. High pressure or Vacuum source would be needed. Sorry if i am wrong. Please give me few details. Vacuum pump is available here.
if you want to work with small particles (5-10 um) of course you also need high pressure or vacuum for flash column chromatography. As i previously stated you have to work with larger particles size for less pressure or vacuum requirement. There are complex flash column chromatography systems but what i mention is a simple system which can work with very low pressure. For this purpose, you may use simple plastic hand pump at the head of the glass column..

Zeoprep is the Brand name from http://www.zeochem.ch, a large scale producer of silica for process chromatograph here in Switzerland (and also a facility in USA).

They provide several particel sizes from 15 up to 200+ µm, irregular or spherical, bonded or unbonded, whatever you need.

For your application (open column) I guess irregular, 60-200µm material is what you're looking for. Maybe 40-63µm would do also fine but maybe already needs some forced flow (depends also on column length).

Maybe you could get in contact with them and ask for details about any distributor/reseller near you.
