Hello everybody,

I use an Agilent 7890a GC with a MS 5975 (EI mode). I'll use the default autotune to tune the ms and use normalized gain methods. That is to say (if i'm not mistaken, please correct me): setting a particular gain in the ms parameters of the method that establish the EM voltage necessary to achieve that gain, calculated according to the last calibration of the EM voltage vs EM gain that it is updated with the last autotune. My question is about that: a lot of literature explains that for trace analysis, methods with high gain factors (and the high EM volts) will improve performance (sensivity), but other literature says that the relation signal/noise will mantain constant, then it's better to reduce it in order to elong the lifetime of the EM.

can anybody enlight me about that, do i use the minimum factor gain as possible??

Thanks in advance,

Ricard
