Hello,

I am planning a forced degradation study using Azo-bis-(isobutyronitril) as an initiator within the oxidative treatment with O2.

Is there anybody who ever did this and could give me safety recommendations?

Thank you very much.

AIBN is a safe radical initiator (safer than peroxides), it only gives out nitrogen gas (nevertheless safety is first). It is organic soluble and i think decomposes after 70-75 degrees celcius. That's why you don't have to overheat your samples

Hope this helps
Dear prepcolumn,

thanks a lot for your reply; I am glad about these facts.

Are you also experienced in the use of ACVA (4,4'-azobis(4-cyanovaleric acid))? Does it behave similar?

I didn't use ACVA before but to the best of my knowledge it is water soluble and more flammable
