Triethylamine is used in HPLC , How it interacts with stationary phase so that ,peak shape of compound increases and tailing reduces.

An oversimplified explanation is that it acts as a "competing base" to tie up active silanols. Check out the "chalk talk" on tailing for a more detailed explanation: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18426
