can anyone recommend a good text on analytical (as opposed to prep) protein separation? I would like something that describes what IS done by experienced persons in the field, not what can be done, as some reviews seem to do.

Basic HPLC and CE of Biomolecules
Robert Cunico, Karen Gooding, and Tim Wehr; 388 pp., $39.95

Quite aside from the fact that I used to work with Tim Wehr, and know Bob Cunico well, this is the book I turn to whenever questions come up in our courses.

Available from Amazon, or you can get there via the LC Resources web site (http://www.lcresources.com/resources/resbooks.html) in which case we make 50 cents on the deal :)

Besides the stuff I have mentioned before there is also Advances in Enzymology and other monographs on proteins (don´t have the name at ready, but any good university library will have them). Also, there are reviews in Analytical Chemistry, quite often (have one just lying around: Anal Chem, 71, 389R(1999).
Most activity presently appears to be in connection with proteomics.
