Fronting peaks in GC

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

The analyte I'm interested in fronts quite badly.
The compond is a primary amine and I'm running on an RTX amine phase.

Loading seems OK for the column I'm using (30m x .32 x 0.5u) and I think I've got correct flows etc.

Any ideas whats causing this and any tips to try and avoid it ?

TIA

Stanlee

Fronting may be due to column overloading. Try to inject less or increase the column capacity by increasing the film thickness.

as Stanlee suggests: a good thing to try whenever peak shapes are poor is to inject less sample (injection volume and/or concentration) to see if the shape improves.
Another common cause for fronting is trying to elute a compound at too low a temperature. The earlier posts I wholeheartedly agree with as well.
try setting your initial temp 5 degrees below the boiling point of your solvent.
Ex Mecl2 BP is 40C, Set temp initial at 35C
