Hi,

How to remove the oil hydrocarbon signal suppression on ECD for PCB analysis?

Thanks.

Hi Faulagnier; I used to follow an ASTM Method for this; we used concentrated Sulfuric acid for the reduction of carbonil groups in the oil. Take the oil and add concentrated sulfuric acid and sheke for 5 mimnutes (Be Carefull!!) remove the H2SO4, add fresh and repited a couple of time. Sulfuric Acid is going to reduce carbonyl and other polar groups that can give signal on ECD (Nice principle!); after that you do a clean up with Florysil cartridges.

Unfortunately I don't rave the exact ASTM reference on hand so probably what I am telling not be so usefull but any way; this used to work fine for very dirty oil samples.
