I am working with a Varian CP 3380, and the computer has died mid experiment. Star software 6.0 was previously being operated on windows 98. The computer is connected via ether cable (Star 800 module interface box).

Does anyone have any suggestions for a new pc that would be compatible with both GC and software?
I am considering upgrading to EZchrom software, does anyone have experience with this software?
Is the Star 800 module interface compatible?

As a side note, I am finding Agilent difficult to deal with; is it possible to run
Non Varian/Agilent software on a Varian GC?

Thanks Everyone
Look up WWW.dataapex.com software "Clarity"
Should work well and well priced.

Perfect thanks for your suggestion I will look into in!

Now am i understanding you correctly, that I can operate non-varian software on this gc if it is connected through an interface?
You have a Varian GC and old Varian software. Call Bruker rather than Agilent, the GC products came to us
You should be able to get a replacement PC and just re-load the software and attach the module. Whilst Star has been discontinued there are plenty of users still running it.
Is your problem solved? If you are in India, may be I can help.
I worked in Customer support of Varian GCs for 10 years.
Varian GCs are supported by both Bruker and Agilent, if you find Agilent too difficult to deal with, try Bruker.
Anyway i would stay with Star workstation for a normal GC, i run it on a random pc with windows XP with the star 800 module interface.

Varian 800 MIB actually works with Windows 7 (32 Bit) or Widnows XP (32 bit). Just make sure you use the windows XP compatible mode if you are using windows 7.
