Changing columns between GC & GCMS?

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

I have GC MS data using a HP-5ms column and now I'm trying to get data on GC-EAG-FID. I'm wondering if I can install the HP-5ms column I was using on a HP GC-MS and put it in a Shimadzu GC-17a GC-FID?

Is it bad to change a column from a GC/MS to GC/FID?
No it's not bad to use the same column on two different detectors. Some applications use MS and FID simultaneously using a Y splitter from one main column. Usually the "ms" columns have lower bleed (of siloxane peaks) in an MS chromatogram. Shouldn't make a difference in an FID.

I thought so. Just never had a chance to use multiple different instruments.
SmileyJ,

Don't expect the retention times to be the same since the vacuum of the MS does the chromatography at the end of the column and this does not happen on the FID.

Curiosity killed the cat here.... What is GC-EAG-FID? Specifically, the EAG??

Best regards,
