HP7673 Controller/turret Error - need help

Hello,

Installed on HP5890, our 7673A controller and / or turret keeps stopping during an injection.

On starting a sequence, The turret initialises, the arm picks the vial from the tray, dispenses the vial into turret vial holder. The arm then withdraws and the turret tray rotates slightly , though the vial never actually reaches the sampling position.

After a few seconds, the gripper arm will move and then try again to pick up the now missing vial. If you do not now replace the original vial (currently in the turret) back to its original autosampler tray postition, you get - ERROR MESSAGE 'no vial in gripper'.

However, if you do replace the same vial from the turret back to the autosampler tray, the arm will again pick it up, transfer to the turret as before and after a few seconds you get ERROR MESSAGE 'Error 157' and controller repeatedly flashes red 4 times.

Any advice welcomed,

Lee

first thing... is the nut that hold the turret down loose? Sometimes that can loosen can cause the turret to fault

There is no nut on the turret for a 7673A, the turret just pushes down and snaps into place. But we would typically get the message "turret error" if that was out of place.

Also remember to take apart and wipe clean (no lubricants) the guide rods in the autosampler arm, maybe every two years. Can also wipe clean the rods in the tower.

Have you had any power cuts recently? Has the autosampler been turned on and off? You may need to reinstall the firmware for it.
cheers

I'm using a HP 5890 w a 7673 autosampler. I am consistently getting a turret error. I have placed the turret on the injector turret motor but it doesn't seem to snap into place, this model does not have the nut on the turret. When the injector goes through the start up procedure, the turret seems to be quite loose and the rotation of the turret seems to be hampered by the guide arm in the tower. How much force is required to get the turret to 'snap' into place.

If the shaft and turret are lined up correctly, I've always found that it does take fore force than "expected" to seat the turret.
