Hello!

I would like to do an project using liquid chromatography, and i found a great idea here on
this site on how to build a easy liquid chromatograph.

http://www.itsjustabox.com/Sciencefair.htm

You need to scroll down a bit to see it.

Do you think his design would work, because i want to be sure before i ask my teacher about the things needed to build it.

Thank you!!! :)
All of those projects can (and do!) work.

As an aside, many years ago (as a newly-minted high school teacher) I used paper chromatography to catch a cheater by matching the ink on a "crib sheet" found on the floor to the ink the student had used when he took the test.

Thank you!!!

if it is not too much trouble, could you, or anyone else, tell me a bit how to build the liquid chromatograph that is in the picture (especially how to place the glass tubes)? it looks like a really weird construction.

Thanks again :alien:
Are you asking how to build this setup? (taken from your link)

Well . Its column cromatography. This variant of licvid column chromatography use in 1950- 60 years , but now it variant use as Flash chromatography for sample concentration.

For hand make.
1) Any glass tube . You may be have n't special column, but pipette and glass wool can be make .
2) Sorbent - need use silicagel fraction 50 -100 mkm (0.05 -0.1 mm) .
Use aluminium oxide , silicagel or RP - silicagel. Silicagal have small money.
3) Problem- effective of this column is small (big granules of sorbent). Need know very effective system and light separated couples
substancies in mixture for this experiment
4) Mobile phase -you must remember that all chemicals are dangerous and protect your health. As the mobile phase, the least dangerous aqueous alcohol wipe, the type of vodka.
Thank you so much! I have learned alot!

Thanks to all of you, my project will be successful! :alien:
