In principle, not really any different from ion-pair:
- follow the column manufacturer's recommendation for a storage buffer.
- it takes about 10 column volumes of buffer to get complete physical wash-out of a column.
- allow longer equilibration when going from a strongly bound ion (e.g., sulfate) to a weakly bound ion (e.g., chloride)
- try not to leave chloride-containing buffers stagnant in the system overnight.
- watch out for microbial growth -- filter your buffers daily and prepare fresh frequently.
- never run while holding pointed objects like scissors in your hand
