CHIRAL HPLC COLUMN PACKING CONDITIONS

Dear all,
Recently I purchased Chiral gels equivalent to Daicel AS-H / AD-H, 5 micron from Lanzhou Ateo, China, to pack in to self packing columns of 10mm/20mm Id.
Unfortunately, they denied the packing conditions, after supplying gels.
Can any one, help us by providing Bulk density to prepare slurry gel, pushing solvents.

So I will assume that your packing material is just a coated silica (or a material bound to silica)... ? If so, then any ordinary column packing technique should be fine. Keep an eye on the pressure as you may want to keep it lower than normal if it is a non-covalently bound material.

I normally use ethanol or IPA as the slurry solvent. The slurry concentration can be determined once you know the packing density of the material (ask the manufacturer). *The last silica based chiral column I packed was around 0.7 grams/ml. If you do not know the density, then you can also just start with a slurry of say ~ 500 grams/ 1 liter. Depending on the type of column packing system you have just remember to get rid of all gas/air before starting and use a solvent system that is appropriate for your material. In my example above, you could use a mixture of Methanol (or Ethanol) and IPA to pack the column.
